I was very disappointed in my 3 night stay over Easter. I am a SPG Platinum and the only thing I could get as an "upgrade" was to a king smoking room with no view. We called for turn down service on Friday night only to come back to find that they had just made the bed. They didn't remove dirty towels and replace with clean. No mints on the pillow. I didn't find anyone at the hotel particularly helpful. The room was very tiny barely able to fit a bed. I am not sure I would stay there again due to the lack luster service. The only saving grace this hotel has is the location. - On Jul. 20, 2004, prncess674 posted:
I just checked into the Westin Essex House in NYC. The check in agent was just okay. When I enquired about a Platinum upgrade I was told nothing was available. I checked in around noon on Monday so I don't think all the rooms had been all checked in for the coming week. Based on the map on the back of the door I was given a very small room. I can't complain about the room size because it is well laid out. I would have liked some additional counter space in the bathroom but it does have a nice closet and luggage area.
The biggest downside I can see with this hotel room is NO IN ROOM COFFEE MAKER!
I was having problems with the high speed line but after a few hours they got it up and working again. They fixed it pretty quickly so I cant complain. I used dial up once while they were working on the high speed line and the dial up speed was very good.
I used the fitness center and it well equipped for my needs. Several treadmills all with personal tvs. 2 ellipticals and plenty of free weights. There is a full service spa that I didn't use but they do have a comp bowl of fruit which I did help myself to an apple each evening. yet but
The room service menu seems overly expensive even for room service. I did not try any of the restaurants in the hotel. There are too many good restaurants in this city to bother with hotel restaurants. - On Feb. 28, 2004, IL posted:
Room was small and dark. Standard room only comes with a queen size bed. If you want a king size, you pay extra. Bathroom was basic. Courteous and helpful staff though. Impressive lobby entrance, upscale. - On Feb. 15, 2004, RKG posted:
The decor in this hotel is a bit rundown in the rooms. The furniture is pretty beat up and it shows. The furniture itself is good, but lots of nicks and scratches. The service is pretty decent - about all you can expect in NY. The location is awesome - right on Central Park South. Can't beat it in my opinion. The lobby is nice but I wouldn't say that it's grand. As plat, was upgraded to a huge suite with an interior view. Never have gotten that coveted park view upgrade.
