    OK, first of all, the bedroom ceilings are black and the hallways feel as though you need a seeing eye dog. This former Days Inn looks and feels like it tries way too hard to be hip, and fails. Way too many other good hotels in Chicago to chose this one

    W Lakeshore is very hip/cool hotel. The interior is just what you would expect at a W - very clubby look. The rooms are very cleanly decorated - equivalent of heavenly bed, sun shower, black countertops, etc. The bathroom is entirely open to the room and the room looks out into Michigan Lake. The other side of the hallway looks out into the city. The hotel itself is located about a $3 cab ride from Michigan Ave. I had two problems at the hotel - the air conditioning is not strong enough. I set it to 71 and the unit ran all night and never cooled the room below 73. This has happened to me on multiple occasions. Also, the bath towels were rather worn and threadbare. I picked up a couple of them and they were very tatterned and worn on the edges. I was shocked, given that it's the W. But nonetheless that was the case. The gym and pool are great - plenty of space and equipment - weights, treadmills with TV, etc. Whisky Sky on 33 is a great bar as well. I will return. The regular rate is exorbitant at $400/night but get a corporate rate for $150 and you'll do great.

    i liked this hotel and would return. i received the plat upgrade to the urban suite and enjoyed it. and yes, the staff could be more friendly.

    This is a fairly typical W. The decor inside is just what you would expect - high end and minimalistic in a way. As SPG plat was upgraded to an urban suite with 1.5 baths and a bar, overlooking Lake Michigan. The staffers/cast members are not very friendly or service oriented. I almost never got offered help by the bellmen, though they were standing right there. The bar is pretty happening in the evenings.
